Aha, a writer whose stuff I ve actually read Always great to meet another crime writer I ve a couple coming out over the next few months myself and I m posting the pilots on You Tube VERY shortly.ROGER Rebecca Lawson is a new lawyer who moved to a small Vermont town to start her practice The story begins when she meets Charlie and starts to date him I loved how she fibbed about another guy checking her out in order to figure out how serious Charlie was about her This was funny, and there are many times when Rebecca thinks something that made me laugh, which was good because I love The story begins when she meets Charlie and starts to date him I loved how she fibbed about another guy checking her out in order to figure out how serious Charlie was about her This was funny, and there are many times when Rebecca thinks something that made me laugh, which was good because I love humor and I found it helped to ease some of the tension This book is filled with some tense moments, so a balance to lighten the mood was a plus for me Anyway, one day Charlie gets up and leaves without telling anyone why The reason becomes clear later, but I don t want to spoil the surprise because it s a good one But while Charlie is gone, Rebecca gets a request from Allan Richards to work for him Allan is concerned that one of his employees is involved in something illegal, and she accepts his case As she delves into the case, she starts to get harassing phone calls and realizes that someone is sneaking around her property and following her The question is who wants her to stop working for Allan and why What I also liked about this book, besides the wonderful blend of humor, was that I couldn t guess exactly who could be trusted and who couldn t I thought I had a handle on it, but then something would happen and I was back to guessing again I also enjoyed learning about how lawyers do things I ve never read a legal thriller before, so I was able to put myself in a lawyer s shoes and get an idea of how the legal process works Here I went into the story to be entertained and also learned something new in the process It was a fun read, and I recommend it to others Trust No OneRebecca Lawson, a young general practice attorney in Vermont, expected to expand her practice when she was hired by Allan Richards to investigate a suspicious employee Instead, she finds herself amidst national and international conspiracies, manipulations, and murder With the help of an old colleague from Boston, Joshua Tameron, she learns that the financial security and innocent citizens of the United States are in imminent danger, and it is up to them to expose the truth Confidential Communications is a legal thriller that takes the reader on a ride which evaluates the vulnerability of us all while witnessing the downfall of greed It turns the tables on the legal system and entertains us every step of the way We ve all heard the endless string of lawyer jokes that are so popular we may have even told a few ourselves This novel effectively turns the tables on our faulty perception of the legal profession This novel is written from the unusual perspective of an ethical attorney and the high price she pays for keeping her integrity The novel begins quietly as befits the small town of Deering, Vermont We learn all abo It turns the tables on the legal system and entertains us every step of the way We ve all heard the endless string of lawyer jokes that are so popular we may have even told a few ourselves This novel effectively turns the tables on our faulty perception of the legal profession This novel is written from the unusual perspective of an ethical attorney and the high price she pays for keeping her integrity The novel begins quietly as befits the small town of Deering, Vermont We learn all about the town and about our young protagonist, Rebecca Lawson Starting the story out this way and taking the time to tell us these details was a very smart choice We get to know Rebecca identify with her We learn about her roots about her family and how her background instilled into her certain ideals Because of the author s meticulous attention to detail and the fine character analysis presented, we understand how Rebecca grew up and into the person she is today Further, we find that what she wants is what we want for her because what she wants for herself benefits us all Rebecca Lawson is somebody that is solid and dependable and feels a pull towards following tradition and keeping heritage alive As is often the case with those interested in preserving the rich tapestry of life that precedes them, she wants peace and quiet and to lead a life in service to others Therefore, Rebecca takes life and her duties as a duly sworn officer of the court seriously We like her for that, andimportantly, we like her This furrowing the ground and planting seeds at the outset is what allows us to understand the full degree of how the unfortunate and explosive series of events that Rebecca is about to encounter, will jar and unsettle her Because of this excellent use of strong character development and pacing, we realize that they are at complete odds with the life she s always dreamed of having Far into the story, it explains her dogged determination in trying to bring the wrongdoers to justice because in doing so she not only upholds those ideals she believes so strongly in she also wins back her life That s powerful motivation and it s because the time was taken to set the stage with the right elements at the very beginning The plot is interesting and keeps us engaged There are several twists that we don t see coming There are also occasions when we do see things coming and we yell at our heroine to open her eyes and not be blinded by her all too tender heart Again, this device is effectively used and makes us like her all theIt adds rather than detracts from the storyline Soon enough the leisurely early pacing that assures us that everything is status quo quickens We find that we re speeding through the action and watching events come at her from all sides She doesn t know what to do or who to trust and neither do we We eagerly follow her as she uses her keen logic to start putting the pieces together to unravel the financial mystery The scheme she devises to expose the truth is clever and one that would work in the real world This helps add authenticity to the story When her plan is put into play, she starts to understand the gravity and sheer enormity of what is transpiring She enlists the help of an old friend the only person she can trust with such potentially devastating evidence In the end, we have a complete picture of a greedy financial scheme that could have been pulled from today s headlines We are left to wonder if this is just fiction or if it s something that is actually taking place Confidential Communications delivers a punch of excitement, a hell of a story and likable heroine I have the sneaking suspicion that a lot of the heroine s admirable traits are pulled straight from the heart of this very talented author I don t have the prerequisite legal burden to prove it only a sneaking suspicion One thing I am sure of is that this woman can write Do yourself a favor and pick up a copy of Confidential Communications You ll be glad you did Confidential real life Ponzi scheme activities that have been peppered all over the news lately And even if you don t follow politics or business, you will relate to this book as it is presented by Becky Lawson, a small town lawyer just trying to do the right thing. That being said, I have two minor complaints The first being that I wish there wasdefinition in the chapter where a characters memory changes to the present time At times it was a little jarring to go from past to present with nothingthan a new paragraph My other small complaint is I with there wasspace between the sentences At times it was hard to read as if felt the sentences were bleeding into each other. This is a good quick read and should be on everyone s must read list J.R Reardon s Confidential Communications is a legal thriller that
